Born in Trinidad, Alexander grew up in London. A professional musician, composer and arranger for over 30 years, Alex returned to his calypso roots in the late ’80s with his own ‘Socablues’ fusion of calypso, soul and blues.
Alex runs a 10 piece band, a small record label and leads calypso workshops.
He is Calypsonian-in-Residence at the BBC, delivering a fortnightly satirical calypso and the BBC’s ukblack podcast.
A calypso tent stalwart, he has a unique writing and performance style.
He has also written for others, with songs including Monsanto’s Law, Panorama Attack and Unzip Ah Banana.
