This guide invites you to meet some of the individuals who make up our organisation, running since 1991. We are unique in that there is no other organised collective that represents the music of Calypso in Britain or in Europe

The ABC is member driven; our members are all British citizens or residents with Caribbean and South American roots in countries including Anguilla, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, St. Vincent and Trinidad & Tobago. The ABC boasts a junior as well as an adult membership and every year

stages the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition as well as the adults’ Calypso Monarch Competition.

Our audiences are reaching as far as Iran, with a great interest in the music of Calypso we offer. Technology has also allowed us to reach more people via internet streaming. In August 2010 we linked up successfully with WACK FM, a radio station based in Trinidad, where our Calypsonians have been heard by thousands of listeners, as well as other parts of the Caribbean, America and Canada.

The Mighty Tiger was the first British Calypso Monarch since the 1970s and crowned Monarch much as ten times. A long and interesting career stems from Trinidad’s Revue and Victory tents and the Lord Kitchener’s Calypso Review. His recent tunes include: Kilkardy Woman, Mating Game, Dance with You and Yaa Asantewaa, (Yaa Asantewaa Arts and Community Centre official theme song). Although Tiger ended his competing days at

the Calypso Monarch competition in 1997, he remains the undisputed Calypso Monarch of the UK; many more epic calypsos may be expected from this talented bard.

Nicole-Rachelle Moore

ABC ADMINISTRATOR

Born in London, Nicole grew up in Trinidad with ther parents. She returned to London in 1987 with an abiding passion for African and Caribbean arts. Graduating in Caribbean Studies and English, she taught English followed by a Masters in Post Colonial Cultures. She has been a guest lecturer on calypso at Goldsmiths College in London and at the College of Science, Technology & Applied Arts, Trinidad.
